I found out that many others from the FIRE mailing list have also received emails from this troll. So, while still wondering whether a punch in the nose constitutes church discipline, I don't feel so personally attacked now, since this is his normal habit it seems.

As has been said multiple times, "Spam filters are your friend". Just set the filter to automatically delete messages when coming from his email address. And more importantly pray for this poor and what appears to be angry person that God would soften his heart.
