Readers:

I am looking for a good book (or section from a systematic) that details the names and descriptions given to the church.

Examples:

Bride of Christ
Pillar of truth
etc.

I am not looking for a book like Jus Divinum or Bannerman, but something that just describes the titles, responsibilities, and privledges of the church.

I am looking forward to your suggestions, and remember it can be, "Read chapter 9 of _____________."

Church Communion or The Unity of the Body of Christ and The Duties the Members Owe One to Another by Thomas Boston (Complete Works, Vol. 3, pgs. 591-655).

Volume Two of Systematic Theology by Rousas John Rushdoony (Chapter XII. DOCTRINE OF THE CHURCH) pages 691- 702 may be of some use to you.

Rushdoony deals specifically with the following words for "the Christian Community:"

Assembly
Congregation
The Holy Assembly
The House of God

a suggestion

Hi Nathan

The section on the Church on the Systematic Theology by Dr. Robert Reymond

Pages 805- 976 is greatly written and absolutely thorough.

So in case you haven’t seen it yet, please give it a try, it has so much in it.

From the assemblies in the Old Testament to

an exegesis of ekklesia in each book of the New.

From the Attributes of the Church

(where the matters you mention are properly explored and explained)

to, and I find this is a very interesting part indeed,

a comparative Confessional formulation of the marks of a True Church

– Augsburg, Geneva, Scottish, Belgic, Westminster Confessions.

And so much more.

Hoping this was useful.

I am in the process of reading "The Glorious Body of Christ" by Kuiper. Very good! Definitely recommend it.

CHURCH, THE CHURCHES & THE KINGDOM, MAURO, P

Eminently practical. A plea for the restoration to the original signification of those great

Bible words "church" and "kingdom" and for a recognition of the distinctions between

them, which are fundamental. Such an object should enlist the interest of the people of

God purely as a matter of veneration for the Biblical names of things so closely related to

Christ and His redeeming work. 283 pp.
