I'm wondering about this particular book that was recently referred to me in terms of it's faithfulness to the Reformed positions consistent with other Reformed, historically recognized theologians who've exegeted or written commentary on Hebrews?
Sounds like it is a good place for a lay-person to start with a broad overview & explanation of the books meaning & purpose.

Would welcome opinions, good or bad as I have zero familiarity with the author.
Also would appreciate other recommendations if interested in offering them.

Thank you in advance!

Hello Kathleen, @Purisomniapura ,

I believe Stuart Olyott is a 1689 Baptist, and he has written a number of sound, deep, simple and easy to understand books, on Daniel, Romans, (and others in this series), on preaching, the Trinity, the Deity and humanity of Christ, etc. I really like his books. I believe he is Reformed in his soteriology, and sound.

I have heard Mez McConnell speak of him as a personal mentor. High praise in my opinion.

I just finished this book last week in my devotions. I can assure you Mr. Olyott is a great preacher, and thoroughly orthodox and reformed, and the book is very helpful. He basically expands and explains the texts in his own words, and then makes application. Like me, you are presbyterian and so you will likely find a few areas which you don't agree with - mainly in the terms of the relationship between Old Covenant and New Covenant - more continuity or discontinuity - Olyott's book is written with the latter emphasis.

However - 99% of the book is great for any Christian.

Banner of Truth also publishes "Lets study Hebrews". I believe this would nicely compliment the Stuart Olyott commentary.
