I have a friend who paid the property tax for someone else. He lives in a house that is paid off. The owner told him that he can live there as long as he pays for the property tax. He went to a tax preparation service and was told that he could deduct the property tax from his taxes even though he is not the owner. Then, he talked with a tax attorney about that and was told by the attorney that he could not deduct it from his taxes. This reminds me of the value of getting a second opinion or having a multitude of counselors.
