Is it possible to violate the second table of the law without violating the first?**

No, hatred of neighbor always reveals hatred of God. One cannot love God, whom we don't see, if we don't love our neighbor, whom we do see (cf. I John). Thus violation of the second table always entails violation of the first.

Jas 2:10    For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

How can you break a commandment after the first one without even breaking the first one? A violation of any command denies the Author and submission to God. Dr. Strange is most correct.

Or can one really love ones neighbor if one does not love God? Only God can grant true pure love, and that is only possible for those that love God and that is because He loved us first. :)

And even more simplistically - No because God tells you not to break the second table and if you do you break the first commandment rejecting God as God and lawgiver who is to be obeyed.
