Argument. Christ is called, and was the Lord of the Sabbath, Ergo the Lord’s Day is instituted by Christ; The consequence of this is, because no one else can change the Sabbath, that the day of the Old Sabbath has been abolished and done away with; and all must and will admit, that the Lord’s Day from the time of the Apostels, until the present day has been maintained; so has the day of the Sabbath been changed; and has been by Divine Authority, by the authority of the Lord Christ: for by Him alone comes the power to change the day of the Sabbath: because of that of Him alone is said the Lord of the Sabbath, Matt 12 vs 8. Now who is the Lord of a matter of a day, he has the complete right to the matter of that day, he can substitute a new day, and transfer the privileges and the honors of the old Sabbath to the new day. Thus no one has, or can have, full rights over the Sabbath, other than God, or our Lord Jesus Christ, who is God: for all other people are wholly subject to the Law of the Sabbath; it is true, Christ, for as much as He was our predecessor, and was also subject to the Law, Gal 4 vs 4, but no one will or can say, that the whole Christ, or the complete Christ, for as much as He was God, and was under the Law; furthermore no one else can sanctify the Sabbath, but only the Lord of the Sabbath, who is able to sanctify, institute, and bless; who is more than the Temple, of which is Christ alone, Matt 12 vs 6. Thus we conclude, the the Lord’s Day has been by the Lord Jesus as Lord of the Sabbath by his institution and Authority, transferred the honor and privileges of the Old Sabbath to this day.
