Johannine usage of the aorist?

So in the dust up surrounding the Flowers/White Debate a lot of ink is being spilled (or bandwidth eaten up rather...) on the aorist of faith/pistis and it's usage in John. White argues that John (and not necessarily the Greek language as a whole) uses it to reference what is false faith while true faith is continuing.
While it seems like it was tangential to what White actually argued, many have jumped on it to refute White in toto.
What are your thoughts on the usage (not on White)? This probably touches on my last question regarding the aorist not being simply a past tense.
