Hello All,
One of our fellow PBers expressed an interest in poetry I did for the John Milton Society, a poetic society. I'd like to share one that I did called Concerning the Advent:
"He comes triumphantly, lordly like a king." Thus says
Michael and his angelic armies. Magi also, and shepherds
Base antiphone this strain.
Earth, earth, thou twice drunken, drowsy fool!
All dead to righteousness, invigorated only by Babylon's
Brothels! Soon thy bread and circuses will turn to blasting
Mildew and Teutonic raiders! Soon thy wisdom will be
Turned to folly, and thy government to fully tyranny.
For now thy bastard governor seeks predestined council,
Certain prophecies, and Almighty Providence to withstand.
HEROD THE CRUEL
Murderous rogue: engulfed in Romulus' power-lust seeks to
Overthrow the
NATIVE & TRUE CHALLENGER & ONLY POTENTATE.
Yet while in kingly state he from below appears, He from
Above, King of kings and Lord of lords, His royal chamber
Reeks of dung. Behold, O earth, your King and your God!
Thus cold and dead, you scorn His kingdom come.
City of Man, mourn at thy backward reading of the times!
Weep and bewail thy children of harlotry, who love self and
Eschew the only Name under which they may be saved! See
How swiftly thy visitation cometh! Four and thirty years
Hence thy mortal would will come upon thee! For, this
Dread Warrior, Prince of Peace, will triumph over Caesar,
Herod, Romulus, Pilate, Caiaphas, Judas, Beelzebub, and
Others of thy gentry and ruling classes.
City of God, rejoice that thy Light has come! Thy Chief
Architect and Corner Stone! Priest and Victim! King and
Servant! God and Man! City set on a hill, rejoice at His
Coming! Let earth receive her King! Let earth become this
City of God!
"Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee. For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee. And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising."
"And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD's house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it. And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more."
