John Owen and John 14:28

    John Owen took issue with the patristic interpretation that John 14:28 ("My Father is greater than I") refers to Christ's human nature. Instead, Owen argued that "our Saviour speaks with respect unto the covenant engagement that was between the Father and himself ..." (Hebrews, 2: 84-85). I have no problem with the notion that Christ submits in his economic role as the mediator of the covenant of grace, but is that really what the verse is talking about?
