"There is not now, ever was, nor will be, any man in the world “enlightened” but by Jesus Christ. Every man that cometh into the world, that ever is enlightened, is enlightened by Him.”

Excerpt from Selections From The Unpublished Writings Of Jonathan Edwards, Of America (1865).

Though this view lost its popularity within the West during the Enlightenment, we can follow Edwards in our confidence that the supposed "light of reason" is ultimately entirely deficient when compared to the stunning, eternal radiance of the light of Christ.

Yet Rev. Edwards was clearly fascinated by some of the thinking from the enlightenment as it emerged during his lifetime. He was a bright, bright fellow and widely read.
