Took a class on archaeology with John Currid last semester. He pointed out what should have been pretty obvious -- nomads leave very little archaeological evidence behind them, since they aren't building cities/walls/etc. They plant their tent, pack it up, and move on. You may find more about Israel in Goshen than anything about the Exodus.
