* 1489 -- Thomas Cranmer, English Reformer, was born;

* 1505 -- Martin Luther, German Reformer, was nearly struck by lightning in a thunderstorm, a providence which put him on the path leading towards Wittenburg and Reformation;

* 1600 -- Dutch Protestant victory over Spanish Roman Catholic forces at the Battle of Nieuwpoort;

* 1644 -- Parliamentarian victory at the Battle of Marston Moor;

* 1752 -- The first English Bible was published in America (in Boston).
