Just like a cult

their FAQ

Why are you doing this?

The mission of Beyond Belief Media is "œto provoke conversation about the dangers of religious belief." That´s what the War on Easter is designed to do. In the United States, we often act like Christianity is harmless, but it isn´t. We need to start talking about the implications of having this backward and deranged theology embedded in our culture.

Is religion truly dangerous?

Yes. Throughout history, religions in conflict have generally inflicted the maximum possible violence on their perceived enemies. Religions gain power the more they insulate themselves from criticism. In the United States, Christianity has achieved a degree of insulation that is unwarranted "” it has power, it makes claims, but our politically correct culture forbids vigorous examination of that power or those claims.

But isn´t Christianity the least dangerous religion?

This past Palm Sunday, the Bible phrase heard most often in many church services was "œobedient unto death." A popular sung phrase was, "œWere you there when they crucified my Lord?" Mass movements emphasizing vengeance and lockstep obedience have historically been less than benign.

But, at the moment, isn´t Islam more dangerous?

Yes. But Christianity is equally devoid of reason, and it is the most likely source of mindless antagonism of Islam. In a world where nuclear weapons become easier to acquire year by year, we need to neutralize religious fanaticism before it neutralizes us. And we need to start at home.

Why do you have to go into churches with your criticism?

That´s where the Christians are.

But isn´t it wrong to challenge Christians in their sanctuaries?

Most churches are public places. Anyone can walk right in. Convention dictates that nobody is allowed to question pastors when they stand in front of crowds and make the most ridiculous, obviously untrue claims. But that´s just convention "” it certainly doesn´t make any sense. Clergy may want us to treat them like they are delicate flowers who can´t handle criticism, but that doesn´t mean we should treat them that way.

Isn´t it unfair to target children?

The children we´re trying to reach have already been targeted. They´ve been instructed to believe some of the craziest things imaginable: That there´s a horrible place called Hell, where they may be tortured for eternity "” unless they believe that a man died, stayed dead three days, rose from the dead and flew into the air. Given that these children have already been indoctrinated in this Bronze Age insanity, is it really so wrong to try to relieve their terror by letting them know that this frightening scheme may just be fantasy?

Are you worried that the tone of your campaign will cost you your credibility?

As the author Sam Harris points out in this interview, ridicule is a potent weapon. And political correctness has not exactly been effective in keeping religion in check to date.

{Moderator--I have to delete this link. In my market and at least some others, the ads posted are frankly unfit for display here. Sorry, and no, I don't think it was intentional.}

Somebody from my church posted on our church forum the section at the end where the person who made this movie goes to his old school and interviews the school superintendent. Here's the link:

Added: This clip will give you an idea of the attitude behind this movie.

Just got this e-mail from American Vision.....
SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT from the desk of Gary DeMar:

Dear Friend,

I´ve got great news! A very generous supporter has agreed to match your donation"”dollar for dollar"”up to $50,000 to help American Vision respond to the atheist DVD, The God Who Wasn´t There. (See my article below for more information on this DVD.) Please note that this supporter wants us to raise $50,000 before he will release his $50,000.

If you´re able to help us reach this goal, American Vision will have the $100,000 required to respond with a beautifully produced DVD called, The God Who IS There and distribute it worldwide!

Will you prayerfully consider sending a special gift to help us reach this goal of raising $50,000 (resulting in $100,000)? This is perhaps one of the most important projects American Vision has ever undertaken. The humanists have an agenda to brainwash our children, rewrite America´s Christian History, strip God and Biblical values out of America´s public life, and cast devastating doubt on God´s Word.

DONATE TO AMERICAN VISION (every dollar will be doubled!)
and help us respond to this atheist propaganda DVD!

By God´s Grace, we will use our network of friends, our 25,000-volume apologetics/Biblical worldview library, and our talented team of professionals to refute this atheist DVD head on.

Thanks for considering this request,

Gary DeMar,
President

Answering the Fool as His Folly Deserves
Atheists and humanists around the world are clamoring over the release of a popular new documentary that seeks to discredit the Christian Faith. The God Who Wasn´t There, a one hour DVD produced by "œformer fundamentalist" Brian Flemming, makes the following blasphemous and outrageous claims:

Download the Movie Trailer (QuickTime Format)The Movie Trailer

Official Website

Jesus never existed
Jesus is a myth like the ancient heroes and
figureheads of pagan savior cults
Jesus and the New Testament writers were wrong about the timing of Christ´s return
Christianity is responsible for atrocities throughout history
The Bible teaches ridiculous notions such as the sun revolves around the earth, the earth is flat, etc.
There is no God"“"“the material universe is all there is.
One of the most frightening segments is a phone interview between Flemming and Dr. Richard Dawkins. Dawkins is a well known evolutionist and atheist who wrote The Blind Watchmaker: Why the Evidence of Evolution Reveals a Universe Without Design (1986). In the interview with Flemming, Dawkins draws very sharp battle lines against Christians,

"œScience, scientific reason, the Enlightenment, rationalism, are in their way powerful weapons against religion and all other forms of superstition. Those people who are well enough educated to understand science and reason tend to be the ones who have dropped religion. And so, by spreading science and rationality we would be combating religion and all other forms of superstition. . . . it´s worth noticing that if you take the elite of American scientists, and one measure of that that´s [sic] being taken as those being elected to the National Academy of Sciences, these are the cream American scientists, more than 90% of them do not hold any supernatural religious belief. So, among the best American scientists, religion is almost dead. And that´s a very encouraging sign."

Scary. Of course what the viewers don´t know is that there are literally thousands of credentialed scientists who believe the Bible. These men and women are censored from writing in any peer-reviewed journals, joining scientific associations, and even teaching at secular universities. Furthermore, Flemming fails to recognize that the scientific revolution was born out of a Christian worldview. Nearly all of the scientific pioneers were Bible-believing Christians.

We at American Vision fear many will fall prey to this DVD´s bogus claims and that most Christians will not have an answer. That´s why we cannot let this preposterous video go unanswered. As a comprehensive apologetics and educational ministry, we believe God has positioned us to respond on a national level.

While some ministries could respond to certain aspects of this video, only American Vision is equipped to respond to every major attack on Christianity"“especially the attack on the timing of Christ´s return as predicted by Jesus and the New Testament writers. Many Christians avoid the difficult "œend-time texts" found in Matthew 24:34, Revelation 1:1, etc. And most ministries avoid the divisive topic of Bible prophecy altogether. Yet the Bible instructs Christians to have an answer (1 Pet. 3:15)! Someone must equip churches and Christians to answer the atheists and skeptics.

So how do we respond? First, we plan to produce and distribute a hard-hitting DVD of our own that exposes the faulty logic, poor scholarship, and blatant lies presented in The God Who Wasn´t There. The name of our documentary is appropriately called, The God Who IS There.

Second, a companion study guide with additional resources will also be produced to expand on the content of our video. Third, we will launch a special website to promote the DVD and study guide. Our hope is that these resources will equip Christians with answers and ultimately lead atheists and skeptics to Christ.

Friends, this is what American Vision is all about. If we are going to see America return to her Biblical foundation, we must combat competing worldviews with the life-giving truth of the Bible. We´re in a Culture War, and American Vision is on the frontlines. We´re using every resource and tool God has entrusted to us to ignite grassroots change in America.

Well, it´s hard to believe that Brian Flemming would go to such great lengths to fight a god he doesn´t believe in. The Psalmist was certainly correct when he said, "œThe Fool says in his heart, "˜there is no God.´" His motivations aside, Flemming´s atheistic propaganda is the symptom of a deep problem in American culture. It should wake all of us up to the spiritual battle we are fighting today. Consider this: If the atheistic worldview prevails in our culture, Christianity could be outlawed in America.

The cost of launching a national response to The God Who Wasn´t There DVD will be approximately $100,000. Add this to the cost of our existing ministry on the radio, Internet, seminar circuit, book publishing, etc. and the need is great. Greater funding will enable American Vision to equip Christians to win the Culture War in America. Will you consider a special gift to help American Vision combat atheism, agnosticism, and liberalism? And we won´t just stop there. Ultimately, it´s about showing forth the love of Christ and the transforming power of the Gospel to these lost people.
