May I please have some recommendations for a book to give to my wife?

I don't have a specific topic in mind, just something to help with the Christian life. But, I do not want something full of personal stories and anecdotes; rather, straightforward teaching. So, probably not something modern, but not a difficult read either.

Would J.C. Ryle fit that bill?

This book is probably not what you were looking for, but it just may be what you need. Knowing and trusting in the promises of God has been and still is transforming my life, and I have been a Christian for 46 years. For me, this little book was a major key to greater hope for my family and full assurance of God's love and friendship to me.
