You are making this person sound like the Gail Riplinger or Ruckmanite of their position. This is sounding more and more like the same kind of stuff back in the 80's just repackaged.
 
It does appear that the ESV has the better translation of the Greek in this instance. The KJV appears flat out wrong.
I wouldn’t say flat wrong. Our modern ears almost always hear “and” and think it describes a sequence. But I think 17th century ears would see a simple conjunction used for emphasis.

Along the lines of, “you killed him. Not only that, you hanged him on a tree!”

I was thinking the same thing. It doesn't necessarily mean "you slew him and then hung Him on a tree." I think he KJV actually draws out some inextricably linked yet particular aspects of the crucifixion as brought out in places like Deut. 21:23 / Gal. 3:13 and Ezek. 18:4, 20 / 2 Cor. 5:21; Col 2:14 etc.
