Meditation is the very life of reading and hearing, 1. Tim. 4. 15. and it is a separation of our selves purposely from other matters, that we may seriously think of what hath been taught, Gen. 24. 63. that it may be settled in the mind, and work upon the affections, Jer. 8. 6. for which end we must join examination and prayer, Luk. 18. 1.

John Ball, A short treatise: containing all the principal grounds of Christian religion. By way of questions and answers: very profitable for all sorts of men, but especially for householders (London: William Welby, 1617), p. 110.
