methods of mediate calls

What are the various ways God called people to office through some mediate form (as opposed to his immediate appearing, such as with Moses and Isaiah) in the OT? Here are some:

[1] Herediatry calling of Levites and priests
[2] Hereditary monarchy
[3] Appointment of judges by Moses

Can anyone think of any examples of elections?

What about the way Timothy was called? I don't know what one would call that, but it serves as another example.
