Mary grab the baby river’s rising
Muddy water’s taking back the land
Old frame house she can't take one more beating
Ain’t no use to stay and make a stand.

Well morning light showed water in the valley
Daddy’s grave just went below the line
Things to save you just can’t take them with you
The flood will swallow all we leave behind.

I won’t be back to start all over
‘Cause what I felt before is gone
Mary take the child the river’s rising
Muddy water’s taking back my home.

The road is gone there’s just one way to leave here;
Turn my back on what I’ve left below
Shifting lands and broken farms around me
Muddy water’s changing all I know.

Hard to say just what I’m losing
Ain’t never felt so all alone
Mary take the child, the river’s rising
Muddy water’s taking back my home.
Well muddy water’s taking back my home.

Man, powerful yet simple lyrics. That's the beauty of old country, bluegrass, folk, and Americana. Some of the deepest emotions are conveyed in unassuming verse. It's the same way that the music, melodies, and harmonies work, too. The listener easily and simply slips into the setting without being overwhelming, yet there is a possession of delicate complexity. Each note is a crafted symphony that is designed to disarm all pretentious, preconceived notions. It's a way that captures every man's experience.

Moving! Thank you for sharing.

Loved it! Thanks for sharing. The words and music really resonate after what’s been occurring over the past couple of weeks.
