Took a road trip yesterday, accompanied by "The Fillmore Concerts" by the Allman Brothers Band (recorded in 1971) and "Blue and Lonesome" by the Rolling Stones (recorded in 2015). The former is one of the best live albums ever recorded. The latter is a pretty good blues album, although Mick Jagger has a hard time selling himself as a blues singer.

I'm always blown away by the musicianship of the Allman Brothers Band especially with their performance of Whippin Post.

The Allman Brothers Band was a sharp, disciplined band that obviously believed in rehearsal. As you said, their musicianship was incredible - the total opposite of the Grateful Dead, which always impressed me as a band that was more interested in getting high than in creating music.

I never saw the Allmans live, and wish that I'd had the chance. Too late now.
