I read the below extract on hell in Oliver Heywood and it reminded me of Jonathan Edwards's Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God. I wonder if the latter had read the former?

Satan is leading me Hellwards I must be changed or dammed: for ought I know I stand tottering over the brink of Eternal Misery; I hang by the small Thread of my natural Life over everlasting Burnings: my case is worse then the Beasts, that are not capable of moral Evil, or pain; Acts 3.18.

Oliver Heywood, A new creature: or, A short discourse, opening the nature, properties, and necessity of the great work of the new creation upon the souls of men. Being some plain discourses on Galatians vi. 15 (London: though. Parkhurst, 1695), p. 171.
