For any man to slink out of the profession of Christ when he is called to it, or out of any truth of his, though he deny not that Christ is the Messiah, and that Christ is come in the flesh, or the great points of salvation, yet it is a denial of Christ.

Thomas Goodwin, A Discourse of Christ the Mediator (London, 1642) in The Works of Thomas Goodwin (12 vols, Edinburgh: James Nisbet, 1861-66), 5: 249.

Can you share the preceding sentence for context? Is he saying you can confirm his identity and all attributes but deny his Lordship and this is a denial?
