On the Covenanters placing Britain under Christ (William White)

As God hath put all things under Christ, for the church's sake, so the Covenanters sought to place Britain under him for the same end, and we may therefore affirm, that they acted on the most enlightened principles, seeing they are the same as those by which the universe is governed.

Another quote from William White to the same effect as the OP:

If these covenants are still binding on the country, is it not a duty of the most important nature, to bear a testimony against the ingratitude of man in breaking these vows, and for the goodness of God, in having brought the nation into such a close and honourable connection with himself.

James White has just put out a tweet that is relevant to the general theme of the OP:

I absolutely agree that this does logically follow, however, connecting James White to the Covenanters also reveals a major issue. Being a Baptist Dr White would not have been in fellowship with them and outside of the national covenant. Would he have been imprisoned? Exiled? Killed?

What would be needed for this to be true is not only a redeemed people that would joyfully accept Gods righteous standards, but also a purification of doctrine.

I do believe, and hope, that the Covenanters were prototypical of what is to come. However I struggle with if the issue is not one of political and social reform but one of eschatology.
