Greetings,

In Numbers 33, we have a recounting of Israel's journey from Egypt to just outside the Promised Land. This morning I was struck with the last phrase of verse 4., "On their gods also the Lord executed judgments."

Wht does this verse mean?

Numbers 33:3‭-‬4 ESV
They set out from Rameses in the first month, on the fifteenth day of the first month. On the day after the Passover, the people of Israel went out triumphantly in the sight of all the Egyptians, while the Egyptians were burying all their firstborn, whom the Lord had struck down among them. On their gods also the Lord executed judgments.

Ideas???

The ten plagues are not just random acts on God's part; they are targeted demonstrations that the Lord is the true God and not the gods of Egypt. John Currid has a fine treatment of this.
