What are some of your favorite "one (or few) hit wonders" (or as they say in That Thing You Do, "O-NEDERS")?

Some of mine include:

Hang on Sloopy -- The McCoys
Brandy (You're A Fine Girl) - Looking Glass
Walk Away Renee -- The Left Banke
Build Me Up Buttercup -- The Foundations
Drift Away -- Dobie Gray
Blue Moon -- The Marcels
The Bird's The Word -- The Rivingtons
Werewolves of London -- Warren Zevon
Last Kiss -- J. Frank Wilson and The Cavaliers
At This Moment -- Billy Vera and the Beaters
Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye -- Steam
Dancing in the Moonlight -- King Harvest
99 Luftballons -- Nena
Walking on Sunshine -- Katrina and the Waves
Gloria -- Laura Branigan
You're A Friend Of Mine -- Clarence Clemons
Stay -- Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs
Life in a Northern Town -- Dream Academy
Come on Eileen -- Dexy's Midnight Runners
I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) -- The Proclaimers
Macarena -- Los del Rio
If You Leave -- Orchestral Manouevres in the Dark
You are the Woman -- Firefall
The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia -- Vicki Lawrence
End of the Line -- Travelling Wilburys

Tempted by the Fruit of Another - Squeeze

Great Groove, positively bad message in the lyrics

BTW - Firefall had a couple of other hits did they not? I saw them in concert my Freshman year (1978) at Missouri State.

Some of my favorites (in no particular order):

Signs - Five Man Electrical Band
In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida - Iron Butterfly
A Whiter Shade of Pale - Procol Harum
Hunger Strike - Temple of the Dog
Drift Away - Dobie Gray
In the Year 2525 - Zager & Evans (Good call Rick!)
< insert 80's hit song here >
The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald - Gordon Lightfoot
Flagpole Sitta - Harvey Danger
Bitter Sweet Symphony - The Verve
I'm Too Sexy - Right Said Fred
Hot Rod Lincoln - Commander Cody And His Lost Planet Airmen
Breakfast At Tiffanys - Deep Blue Something
The Battle of New Orleans - Johnny Horton (not really a one hit wonder)
Sex and Candy - Marcy Playground

The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald - Gordon Lightfoot

Although this is a favourite song of mine I have to disagree that he was a one hit wonder. Lightfoot has other popular songs and 19 albums.

You're right. I was going to qualify it as I did Horton's but then I asked myself, "Why even list it then?" But I couldn't bring myself to take it off the list.

Warren Zevon!!

Oh, come now.

Just check out his 2 CD Anthology set. He lasted up until the end.

Zevon rocks! Kinda of a 70's "prototype" of John Mayer - ... just kidding

Geordon Lightfoot & the Proclaimers are one hit wonders?

You Americans lead sheltered lives! ( I almost typed yanks---then I remembered who started this thread:D )

BTW what does it say about a persons musical taste if some of their favorite songs are on these lists????

Yeah, we probably do. I know the Proclaimers have had more hits in the UK and Australia but only one top 100 hit in America.

Definitely not a "yank" here. (I was a North Americano to the British folks around when living in Jamaica.) ;) "A Southern man don't need him around anyhow" :sing:

It says "Cool" with a capital 'C.' Um, mostly.:up:

Georg F. Handel topped the charts in 1742 with that "Messiah" piece and then he was never heard from again. I heard he had a run in with gangsta composers on another label or something like that. Gossip is that bad boy mogul Wolf Mozart of Don't Look Bach records was jealous and dissed Handel and his label. It's too bad, I think the guy had some real talent.
