Pardon this trivial question, but I lack a commentary on the book of Ezekiel.

What do the palm trees mentioned in Ezekiel 40 and 41 stand for in relation to the Temple and/or to the vision the prophet is relating?

They are a reminder that the temple is a symbol for the garden of Eden. See also the Song of Songs with its emphases on topography.
