Patrologia Latina - Perfectly Formatted - Text in Volumes

Hello all. I came across this treasure tonight while looking around. This is a, what appears to be, perfectly formatted, digitized collection of the Patrologia Latina. Not the old PDF's, but edited, new-type. Also, not like the Database, but in its individual volumes. Personally, I am going to take them, and split them up (they come in 8 vol. chunks) and set them away for the day, Lord willing, AI will allow entire document upload translations like Google Translate does now. Probably within the next 5-10 years. Most likely, at over 220 volumes, they will never be translated in my lifetime. But, for those that can read Latin, this may be useful to break up and make more legible PDF's or ePubs of. Just thought I would share. Its in the public domain, and so are the texts, so looks like no restrictions.

What I did, and am doing, is getting a conversion program, I use MultiDocConverter, and convert each HTM(L) to DOCX, then split them up in Word.

****Another possible use case, for those with skill in programing, would be to take this, since it is in text, isolate all original words, and possibly create a flash-card set for this set. But that is way beyond the bounds of my tech knowledge or capability.

Hey Charles, if you go to "Patrologia_Latina_1-221.zip (View Contents)" under the https://archive.org/download/patrologia-latina_1-221 link, you will see the zip that has the full set in it. It comes in HTM which you will then have to convert into DOCX. I think uploading the entire 221 volumes in Archive as a book was too large, but all of the HTM files are formatted with the same quality. Each of the HTM's are 8-10 volumes chunks.

It looks like it Index's perfectly in Logos, so I will work on splitting these up so I can upload on their PB site.

What particularly excites you in this collection, in your own reading?

Mainly, that there is 1000 years of Christian theological writings that many, including myself dont get the chance to read because it is in Latin. While I am a Protestant to the core, it still remains that Christianity didnt begin in 1500. But my main hope is in the development of AI. This collection being in Text, and well formatted DOCX's, means that when AI eventually has the capabilities to translate Docs, as opposed to paragraphs at a time, I will be able to upload them volume by volume. Trying to translate them paragraph by paragraph is a pipe dream for a solo project, just too much literature. But it is a blessing someone took the time to edit these so carefully. You can tell it isnt a simple OCR and post job, by the way there is italics, color coding, different size texts and notes within the Doc. That alone takes a lot of work. Just getting 220 volumes into such great condition, is a tremendous task, and a huge step forward for me, and many others, possibly being able to read them in my/our lifetime.

Cool! Nice, I didn't know if there was one thing in particular you had a hankering for. But yeah, it generally is super impressive.
