Do you know if he and Martin Luther ever publicly disputed this?

I do not know, Vic. I would be reluctant to place too much emphasis on this quotation until I have seen more on the subject from the author. And let us not forget that it comes from a very old translation, so who knows if it is 100% accurate. Still, it is an interesting reference, if nothing else.
