I wonder if the Confederate Army did any better overall at Sabbath keeping, particularly considering Stonewall Jackson’s and Robert E. Lee’s influence.

Conservative Anglicans then would have been pretty strict on the Sabbath (think of J. C. Ryle, for instance). It is a shame that the same cannot always be said nowadays.
