Please forgive me for another book thread, but I’m looking for some recommendations on a great book about prayer.

Thank you.

There are some wonderful Puritan classics on Prayer. Bunyan was a spiritual giant so it is worth getting his book on Prayer (Banner of Truth Paperback). Another great work in the Banner of Truth Paperback series is Thomas Brooks The secret key to heaven. Another classic is Vincent's The Spirit of Prayer (Puritan Publications).

In terms of actual prayers you can pray both the Valley of Vision and Matthew Henry's A way to pray. Both published by Banner of Truth and both have been a tremendous blessing to me.

I'd second the recommendations for Matthew Henry and John Bunyan.

I'd also recommend Calvin's Institutes, Book 3, Chapter 20: Of Prayer – A perpetual exercise of faith. The daily benefits derived from it.

It depends on what kind of book you want: A theological analysis of prayer? A how-to guide for prayer?

In addition to the good suggestions so far, if you are looking for a contemporary and personal encouragement to pray, Paul Miller's A Praying Life is excellent.

And do not forget about Psalms. Those of us who geek out on the Bible but forget to pray should notice that the Bible includes a prayer book. We can indulge our Bible study and dive into prayer at the same time!

I was just listening to R.C. Sproul's daily radio presentation. He is doing a series on prayer and he said that anyone who immerses themselves in the Psalms will have no problem knowing what to pray. The Psalms, he says, are largely prayers to God. The book someone mentioned earlier, by Matthew Henry, "Prayer" , makes the same point and recommends praying Scripture back to God. The book I mentioned above, by D.A. Carson, was very helpful to me. Just one point was his talking about how to overcome random thoughts that interrupt our prayers.
