Marrow Man
Drunk with Powder
A young man in our congregation (high school age) wrote some poems for a class at school. Keep in mind that he is only 17 years of age and until recently was a devout Roman Catholic (even considering the priesthood). I am posting these poems with his permission.
Faith Alone
I was lost in all my sin,
Covered in wrongdoing!
But Almighty God, the King of all,
My heart He was pursuing!
And now I am in His good grace,
Saved before His throne;
Justified by Christ’s own Blood,
By holy faith alone!
T’was in my deep depravity
That I was in sin dead,
Deserving of the wrath of God,
Christ took it on instead!
And now I am in His good grace,
Saved before His throne;
Justified by Christ’s own Blood,
By holy faith alone!
God’s call upon my heart was strong:
I could not fight against Him!
He called me from my tomb of death,
From my old life most grim.
And now I am in His good grace,
Saved before His throne;
Justified by Christ’s own Blood,
By holy faith alone!
T’was not by my will, but by His,
That I was called to faith!
All glory to Him Who is great
Throughout all time and space!
And now I am in His good grace,
Saved before His throne;
Justified by Christ’s own Blood,
By holy faith alone!
All glory to the God of life
Who chose me as elect!
Why did His will fall upon me?
Why did my soul He select?
And now I am in His good grace,
Saved before His throne;
Justified by Christ’s own Blood,
By holy faith alone!
For all of time I will serve Him,
He Who is so deserving!
I praise the God Who gave me faith!
My faith He is preserving!
And now I am in His good grace,
Saved before His throne;
Justified by Christ’s own Blood,
By holy faith alone!
Grace Alone
Grace alone hast saved my soul
And poured Thy blessing on me.
For my soul it did come,
And grace did set me free.
Grace alone did break my chains
Of sin and total despair;
For me Christ died upon the Cross
With love beyond compare.
Grace alone hast filled me with
Thy great good mercy and love.
In Thy grace I do walk,
With blessing from Above.
Grace alone shall bring me Home
To Thy glorious splendor.
And in Thy presence I shall dwell
In sweet love most tender.
