Proverbs 17:9

Proverbs 17:9 says, "He who conceals a transgression seeks love, but he who repeats a matter separates intimate friends." Can anyone give some examples of concealing a transgression and repeating a matter?

The verse is dealing with "concealing a transgression" by forgiving an offense for the sake of loving a brother and reconciliation. However, "he who repeats the matter" is seeking to stir up strife and cause division. Some examples would be when someone has sinned against you and you've forgiven them so you are no longer holding that sin over their head. However, others may continually bring up that sin and offense only to cause division and strife.

Concealing a matter is when a husband forgives his wife, and then doesn't bring it up.

Repeating a matter is when a husband says "honey, I forgive you", and then reminds her of how she "always does that".
