I was looking for an article from a few decades ago and found it listed on the author's biography as one of several "Representative articles" what exactly is a representative article??

Perhaps an article which is representative the author's larger corpus, in style, substance, etc.?

For authors whose total output of work is substantial (perhaps running to tens of pages of bibliography) it is not uncommon to list a few articles that they believe represent their best work, rather than listing the whole.
