I am listening to a church history podcast and the author frequently uses the phrase "Second Temple Judaism" which I have heard before, but I don't know what it means. Any insight would be appreciated.

It refers to the Jewish worldview around the time of Herod's building of the Temple (finishing Haggai's project, I suppose) to the Roman destruction of it. Some guys use it to argue that the Jews weren't Pelagians, so that can't be what Paul meant.

Be that as it may, 2TJ was probably a matrix of divergent beliefs. Mike Horton's books are good on it.

Judaism as it was in the intertestamental period through the destruction of the Second temple in 70 ad, though its not like the Jewish thought during the time abruptly ended so it goes even beyond that a little ways.

Read Wisdom of Solomon, 1 Enoch, and Ben Sirach for a balanced intro to it. And Wisdom of Solomon is some of the finest non-inspired literature of all time.

STJ is something especially adduced by the New Perspective on Paul as being a "religion of grace." For a fuller treatment of the NPP and its teachings, here is that section of the report of the OP committee to address this and FV (of which I was vice-chairman):

Indeed the Old Testament taught grace. But it was largely not apprehended as such by Israel. Machen reflects on this when he says "either Jesus and Paul were wrong about the Jews of their day [who were largely legalists] or the Jews of their day were wrong about the OT" (Origin of Paul's Religion).
