For reasons of historical research, I would like to read the books exclusively in the Roman Catholic Canon but I don't know which Edition is best. Ideally I would like to find a source that is free online or downloadable in a Mobi or EPUB format.

Are you referrig to the apocrypha?

Here are the approved translations: http://usccb.org/bible/approved-translations/

These versions are readily available and often used by Roman Catholics:

New American Bible, Revised Edition (NABRE)
New Revised Standard Version, Catholic Edition

You can find them for example on biblegateway.com and the Youversion Bible app.

I'll also add, if you prefer a Protestant translation of those same texts, you can go to the KJV with Apocrypha, which you can readily find on-line, or the ESV with the Apocrypha: https://www.amazon.com/English-Standard-Version-Bible-Apocrypha/dp/0195289102

Note that the 1611 KJV included the Apocrypha but not as many subsequent editions did.

Per Tom's post, if you want to only get the NRSV with the Catholic Apocrypha, stick with the NRSV-CE. The non-CE includes other texts they do not use, such as the 3rd and 4th book of Maccabees.

Most devout center-right Catholics prefer the RSV-CE, DRV or NAB 1987 (no inclusive language).
