Stanley Cup Final Game 2 sets TV ratings high - NHL - SI.com

Does the city of Philadelphia drive ratings to such a degree? I knew they were die hards, but it seems whenever the Flyers are playing for the cup, people are watching.

No it is because the Blackhawks are playing and hopefully they will win. And they have nothing else to cheer for this year...

Some reasons...


1) Both of the first two games were on NBC, not Versus.

2) Chicago and Philadelphia are both Top 5 TV markets.

3) Both games were over the Memorial Day weekend.

The irony about 1975 is that the Flyers were playing against my Buffalo Sabres way back when for the Stanley Cup in those Finals. Those were the same finals where there was fog on the ice in Memorial Auditorium, and it was the same series where Jim Lorentz killed a bat during a game, thus earning him the nickname "Batman".

I hear ya. There are only two real sports; football and hockey. All the rest are "chick" sports.
