Hey all, I'm reading through some of the Fathers right alongside a "great books" sweep of ancient history. I'd like some more direction on what to read. The idea is to get a good feel for the influential personalities of the patristic period, especially those works that get referenced a lot later. I'm also reading a few secondary sources, usually intellectual biographies of the important Fathers. Here are some things I've either read or am currently planning to read:

Primary Sources
Apostolic Fathers
Irenaeus - Against Heresies
Tertullian - On Modesty, On the Flesh of Christ, Against Praxeas, On Baptism
Cyprian - On the Unity of the Church
Origen - On First Principles, Contra Celsus
Basil of Caesarea - On the Holy Spirit
Gregory of Nyssa - On Not Three Gods
Augustine - Confessions, The City of God, De Doctrina Christiana, De Trinitate
Athanasius - On the Incarnation, ???
Chrysostom - ???
Others, maybe a later Eastern Father???

Secondary Sources:
Early Christian Doctrines - J.N.D. Kelly
Tertullian, First Theologian of the West - Eric Osborn
Origen - Henri Crouzel
Augustine of Hippo - Peter Brown
Others, especially a survey of Trinitarian/Christological controversies???

Looks like you've already got a good start. I would also suggest reading Calvin along side these. In the Battles Edition, there is an index of early church father quotations. It will help you to see the continuity/development of the Reformers from the Patristic period. William Cunnigham's Historical Theology can also be helpful for that purpose too. :2cents:
