Suggestion- Keep threads open

I apologize if I missed the reasoning posted elsewhere, but seeing all the closed threads makes interaction with older posts impossible without starting a new thread on the topic.

I have been on forums since 2003 and have never seen threads closed like they are here. I was just curious why...
 
Because discussion in a forum is like discussion in person in many ways. People often don't read the dates on threads and somebody might have posted something 3 months ago and the readers jump in not realizing that some posts are really old while other's are recent. It leads to "saner" discussions when a previous thread or post is linked and then, in a new thread, the poster starts a new discussion.
