I love baseball. The memories I have of my childhood playing sandlot ball make the winter days almost tolerable. I'm also a fervent New York Mets fan. That will never change. But something is wrong about a ballplayer opting out of a $200 million 10 year deal for a $300-350 million dollar ten year deal. Of course I'm talking about AROD - Alex Rodriguez. When I was a boy I dreamed of being on the same field as Tom Seaver, Jerry Koosman, Willie Mays, Jerry Grote and Tommie Agee. No wonder soccer and lacrosse are gaining dominance and baseball is losing it.

Sad! People who think 200 mill is to low...to low for what...to play a GAME....thats what it is. Look......I used to play second .....heck...i'll play for 100,000 a year. That is a deal!...

This is a sad testament to the sad state of baseball. It is all about money. Why would a team sign A-Rod. Money. The guy is a loser. He has never won anything, and has never even showed up in a postseason game. He is all about me, me, me. I hope that the team that signs him loses money hand over fist, and that he continues his streak, never even getting close to a World Series.

I live in NYC, and I am a firm supporter of A-Rod. A-Rod is being unjustly persecuted by the media. Baseball is a business where players are paid their worth. A-Rod is not the reason why Americans have such degenerately large appetites for entertainment. A-Rod is the best player in the league and will go on to claim the homerun record, teams better suck it up and pay for talent.

Roger Clemens got paid $22 mil last season and didn't do squat, and this was after he stiffed the Astros out of a couple millions the previous season before. If old man clemens can make $22 mill, and barely pitch a couple of games, then A-Rod is definitely worth $30 mill

And A-Rod has won...?

Was Seattle better or worse after he left? Was Texas better or worse after he left? Were the Yankees better after he came?

Help me to recall... how many rings does Clemens have? How many does A-Rod?

Or let me put it this way:

You are picking a team. No money is involved. You can have either A-Rod or Jeter. Who do you want?

By the way, if you say A-Rod, you should be committed.

Wow, I remember watching a skinny right fielder who played for the Tacoma Tigers at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma. He was pretty good, fast, good hitter. We chatted over the fence during a slow time. Alex Rodriguez was how he introduced himself.

It really wasn't that long ago, maybe back in 93 or 94. Ugh, I'm starting to feel old. Tacoma Tigers are now the Rainiers.

Bill, I got to see the Mets in 1969, in the World Series. Tom Seaver pitched. I remember whenever Tommy Agee came to bat, a couple of guys in front of me lifted signs: "A" "G". Ron Swoboda made a spectacular catch.

That was the last major league game I have seen.

Arod is a heck of an athlete during the season. But in the post season he absolutely stinks. Your best bet is use him to get there bench him for someone who can play when your there.

Ron Paul is a heck of a politician when in session. But in the campaign he absolutely stinks. Your best bet is use him to get there bench him for someone who can win on election day.

*I'm sorry. I couldn't resist. I don't want a political discussion but that was too tempting. I now return you to your normally scheduled thread*

I guess it's time for the Orioles to go after him. He really couldn't hurt them any. They are already bad enough.

A-Rods stats, and MVP awards speak for themselves. The Yankees didn't win didly squat since 2000 long before A-Rod got there. Reason? George Steinbrennar model of simply throwing money at the best talent regardless of the hunger and motivation of the best talent finally caught up with him.

check out A Rod's stats. The man hands down is the best player in the league and if healthy we will see the Home Run record being broken by a non steroid person.

I'm a huge Angels fan. They already went through the Scott Boras fiasco when they signed Jered Weaver. . . ridiculous. But. . . that being said, the Angels need a 3rd baseman with a big bat. Bring on Scotty B. We need A-Rod. We've suffered here in the OC ever since they let Troy Glaus get away. They'd have at least one more World Series ring if they'd kept him. JUST ONE BIG BAT; THAT'S ALL WE NEED. DO YOU HEAR MEEEE? Oh, sorry guys. I get a little carried away when it comes to baseball. I always say, the best day and the worst day of the year is the day they play the last game of the World Series.

why don't you guys go after Roger Clemens :) He made $22mill last year but people seem to be more angry at A-Rod.

Unfortunately you cannot say that for sure. After this Mitchell investigation comes out baseball may never be the same when we see all the star players who have taken steroids over the years.

It will really shake my faith in the essential goodness of mankind to discover that people will drug themselves in order to hit a ball farther.
