The Apostle Paul and the New Testament Canon

Apart from the fact that it was God's will that the Apostle Paul be the inspired writer of such a large portion of the New Testament Scriptures, is it related in God's providence to the fact that out of the Thirteen True Apostles he was the only one with a particular commission to the Gentiles?

Perhaps it's a consequence of the fact Paul was sowing in the most fertile soil.
