According to the Westminster Assembly, Church Government is defined as follows:
Church-Government is a Spiritual[1] Power or Authority[2], revealed in the Holy Scriptures,[3] derived from Jesus Christ our Mediator,[4] only to his own Officers[5] and by them exercised in dispensing of the Word,[6] Seals,[7] Censures,[8] and all other Ordinances of Christ,[9] for the edifying of the Church of Christ.[10]
