Oh, that all things would cease and yield in order that the name of the eternal God would be exalted and hallowed, for all things exist for His sake! Oh, that Jehovah would reign and that the creature entirely would fall away and lose itself completely in the praise of His name! Then, and in no other way, will the world enjoy genuine felicity. You who love the Lord and delight in Jehovah’s name, draw near and focus upon this foundational truth and the inherent light that emanates from the text we are about to consider.Matthew 6:9
He who is the Wisdom of the Father, who came forth from His bosom, and who declared to the world what He had seen with and had heard of His Father, being desirous to teach His believing people to pray properly, causes them to see and impresses upon their hearts that the hallowing, magnifying, and exalting of God’s adorable name is the primary and preeminent principle of all that pertains to their light, life, and salvation. Christ therefore obligated His believing people, first and foremost, to pray to and to beseech their heavenly Father fervently that His name might be hallowed by them and by others. To consider this supremely glorious petition, may the Lord endue us to that end and cause that His name may be hallowed by us. Amen.
