The Synod at Szikszo (1568) rejected the use of the host because it could not by its nature be converted to pious use, as “it is the head and cause sine qua non of an idolatrous Mass”; and “Scripture commands the name, memory, figure, use, and signs of idolatry to be abolished.” In a large section in Gillespie Dispute Against the English Popish Ceremonies, he demonstrates why this is true of the papists' holy days.
