Puritan Board Doctor
Here's a book, long out of print, that should be returned to print. Re-set in modern type, it would make a nice one volume commentary. Green's original audience for these lectures was people in their late teens and early 20s.
Lectures on the Shorter Catechism of the Presbyterian Church in the United States of America, Addressed to Youth by Ashbel Green; 2 volumes (Philadelphia: Presbyterian Board of Publication, 1841). Volume 1: 447 pages. Volume 2: 472 pages. Green lived from 1762 to 1848.
I'm reading this for the second time, and find it excellent. He may have been lecturing to folks in late adolescence, but the lectures are not simplistic in the least. Young people were more mature in those days, I guess.
