I recently watched the DVD Bonhoeffer and then decided to read the book, The Call to Discipleship.
I'm wondering what the thoughts of PBers are on his theology and his stance on the ecumenical movement and also how and if he continues to influence culture and the church today.

If this has been well discussed in past threads just direct me there! Thanks!

I like reading him. My cousin's husband, Randy Alcorn, is coming out with a new book about Bonhoeffer.

His early stuff is good, but I've never been able to figure out what he's trying to say in his later stuff. Barth once said Bonhoeffer "saw something around the corner" which I interpreted to mean that he may have been on to something but wasn't able to explain it.

Well, given that he was actually involved in a plot to assassinate Hitler, I am not sure he would be popular with the "stay out of politics" or the "obey the government no matter what" crowds.

I didn't find his Cost of Discipleship helpful. He definitely was a kindred spirit with Barth. I personally will not be returning to any of Bonhoeffer's works soon.
