What's the best music for travelling? It's going to be dependent on the circumstances, I know, but here are a few of my favorites:

Take Me Home, Country Roads -- John Denver
Kokomo -- The Beach Boys
Holiday Road -- Lindsey Buckingham:

I found out long ago
It's a long way down the holiday road
Holiday road
Holiday road

Jack be nimble, Jack be quick
Take a ride on the West Coast kick
Holiday road
Holiday road
Holiday road
Holiday road

The first two work for me....and of course anything by Alabama.

Cedarmount Kids is excellent also (since you have children) and quite a bit more edifying than hearing your children sing, "Gone, like freight train, gone like yesterday, gone like a soldier in the Civil War, bang, bang..." :D

Do you mean albums? Depends on what I'm into at the time, I guess.

When going on road trips I like to search the AM/FM dial. I often come across musical nuggets you don't hear in the city.

I'm the type of guy that likes to roam around
I'm never in one place I roam from town to town
And when I find myself fallin for some girl
I hop right in that car of mine, drive around the world
Cause I'm a wanderer, yeah a wanderer
I roam around around around around

Beach Boys.

I'm not a huge fan of them most of the time . . . but they're pretty good for a road trip.

I used to play that constantly!

As far as albums go...I would love to get my hands on Convoy again.

Depends if you are talking about drives out in the country or on the interstate. Commutes are a different thing altogether. How long of a trip are we talking about? What time of day or season? You have to take all of the parameters into consideration in order to pick the perfect song/album.

Rule of thumb...Dylan, Hendrix, Classical, Stevie Ray Vaughn are all staples...

Add Neil Young to that list.

I'd bring some Caedmon's Call along too.

I recommend Rush

I especially recommend the Counterparts album cranked way up.

Neal Peart wrote a whole book called Travelling Music, which I also recommend.

I have in mind trips rather than the work commute. Anyone can fill in the rest of the parameters.

Hitting the open road.....

Makes me think and want to hear:

Sweet Home Alabama Lynskyn
Magic Carpet Ride StepWolf
Take it Easy Eagles
Rambling Man Almmon brothers
Midnight Rider Willie
And of course, my all time favorite Road song....
Born to Be Wild!

To name a few.......

Me and You and a Dog Named Boo - Lobo

Me and You and a Dog Named Boo - Lobo

I remember to this day
The bright red Georgia clay
And how it stuck to the tires
After the summer rain
Will power made that old car go
A woman's mind told me that so
Oh how I wish
We were back on the road again

Me and you and a dog named Boo
Travelin' and livin' off the land
Me and you and a dog named Boo
How I love being a free man

I can still recall
The wheat fields of St. Paul
And the day we all got caught
Stealing from an old hen
Old McDonald he made us work
But then he paid us for what it was worth
Another tank of gas
And back on the road again

Me and you and a dog named Boo
Travelin' and livin' off the land
Me and you and a dog named Boo
How I love being a free man

I'll never forget the day
We motored stately into big L.A.
The lights of the city put settlin'
Down in my brain
Though it's only been a month or so
That old car's buggin' us to go
We've gotta get away and get back on
The road again

Me and you and a dog named Boo ...
