Christian Preacher
A Salve for a Sick Man, or a Treatise on Sickness and Dying by William Perkins

I'd have to say that this book is the best read of the year so far. It may be the best read in the lat 12 months. For a number of reasons: 1) It's Perkins, 2) In 30 years I've never heard this topic preached, or for that matter, taught in any church, 3) The wells he draws from are DEEEEEEP. He makes you think about biblical truths on this subject from perspectives that you haven't thought of, and if you started right now, might not ever think of without his help, which is humbling. 4) It is eminently practical and every Christian should study this work. 5) It is extremely God glorifying, not focusing in on man, but how man acts to the glory of God.

It is a treatise on being biblically instructed to live in a godly manner during times of sickness, and times of dying. Perkins uses Ecclesiastes 7:3 as his main text, “The day of death is better than the day that one is born.” He explains the duties of a sick man which are threefold: the sick man has duties that are in respect to God, to himself, and to his neighbor; and the sick should have a specific type of disposition before God knowing that Jesus Christ is completely sovereign over all things. God controls when and how sickness occurs, and specially controls the day of one’s death.

Better than Awesome. Forget going to the movies. Save your $50 and get this book. Sit down with your family and teach them something they haven't heard before.
