Thomas Boston, Works, 5:228:

Ye that profess to be the friends of Christ, walk worthy of your privilege. Carry yourselves friendly towards him. Discover it by your respect to his commands, submission to his will in all things, and employing him in all your needs. And do not pretend to be his friends, while ye are regardless of keeping his way. Ye must distinguish yourselves from his pretended friends, by a sincere and universal obedience to whatsoever he says or enjoins in his word.
