Hello all,

I'm preparing a Bible study on 2nd John 1:4. Can someone shed some light on why the term "walking" was chosen to often describe the saints relationship to the Lord? It seems it has been used to describe the life of a believer since ancient times...

And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect. (Genesis 17:1)

What did the Hebrew culture understand this term to mean, and how are we to understand what it means to walk with the Lord?

I generally equate walking with the Lord with a number of things: consistent Bible study and prayer, listening to the preaching of the word, loving the believers, loving our family and spouses, glorifying the Lord in our vocation, etc...

So, what is it about "walking" that could explain why our Lord choose to use this term to describe our relationship with him?
