Was there a difference between the OT saints and us as far as regeneration?

If both OT and NT saints are regenerated by the Holy Spirit, what difference does God's promise regarding writing his laws on our hearts make for us? Are we somehow different, or more able to live righteously than they were ?

I'd appreciate any help.

Everything was basically the same, except that we enjoy a greater measure of the Spirit. We also have a more detailed knowledge about the Savior. The OT saints trusted in Christ through shadows and types while we see Him in the fulfillment.

Hebrews speaks of them not receiving what was promised but I understand that to mean that while on earth they did not have our knowledge of the blessings of Christ's work at the cross - that is, they did not know how it was all to work out.

Heb 11:38 of whom the world was not worthy--wandering about in deserts and mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.
Heb 11:39 And all these, though commended through their faith, did not receive what was promised,
Heb 11:40 since God had provided something better for us, that apart from us they should not be made perfect.
