Welcome to the 2024 PB Pick'em Bowl Bash! ** Kick-off is 8pm CDT, Tuesday, Dec 17 **

All righty.... so with 2 weeks of the Bowl Bash behind us, the picture has changed since a week ago! Here's where we stand this morning:

Andrew - 23
Brad - 22
Rick - 21
Edward, Jason - 18
Willis, Lane, Todd, Me - 17

The window of opportunity for those in the rear to overtake the leaders is starting to close... let's see what happens this week!

I won three @#&$ #@ #$&$# @&$#@ $&$#@## &&#!§¥£§¥ $#&$@## games this last week!!!! Forgive me for the foul language, I’m venting here!! :blah:

I’m demanding a recount. I’m thinking the cemetery precincts votes are coming in.

The problem is that most of us were picking the best teams and didn't factor in the fact that games aren't won and lost by the players and coaches.

Still waiting to see if the narrative is going to be Georgia wins it all with a bench warmer.

For today's game - Iowa v Missouri... a little known fact is that if you took the southern two tiers of Iowa counties and transferred them to Missouri, the IQ in both states would go up!

I picked Missouri to win. So did pretty munch everyone else (except Ben). So no help for me there.

Penn State (I don't trust Franklin but I think they have way more talent than Boise State)

Texas

Oregon (This is my @Northern Crofter special in that I hope OSU wins, so either way I will be happy)

Notre Dame (I almost was convinced by @Edward but I think the Dawgs start slow as they always do and ND is too strong in every area for them to pull off another comeback)

Do we have a current update on points? This latest slurry of games got away from me and I have no idea what even happened in the past two days yet.

As a further reminder: with the first game of the Quarterfinals being played tonight...

Option A players - who filled in their bracket prior to kickoff of the Bowl Bash - will earn 2 pts per correct pick in the Quarter and Semi finals, whereas Option B players will continue to earn 1 pt per correct pick.

So, for instance, tonight if Penn State defeats Boise... Jason, Rick, and Todd will earn 2 points whereas the rest of us who picked Penn State will receive 1 pt.

Looks like the Sugar Bowl has been postponed while they look for the rest of the terrorists.

Makes sense… Thankfully, the game will still be played, even if it is not today. Everyone’s picks will remain the same, and the game will happen when it happens.

That was some game. I was posting in the PV thread and watching Texas barely beat the Sun Devils. Best bowl game so far.

What kind of defense was AZ State running in the last two Texas drives? Single high? Letting them get behind the defense focusing on trying to take away the underneath routes? Astonishing playcalling there.

Man, Ohio State is rolling. Kicking myself for picking Texas over them right now. We'll see how it plays out next Friday I guess.

Yes, that is exactly why I went with Option B. Oregon would have been very tempting to me for the whole national championship as well, never mind over OSU! Option A is definitely no guts, no glory. Here's hoping you get more glory less gutting from here on :)

As I play out various scenarios with the remaining games… it appears quite possible that we could wind up with a TIE in which neither of those in the tie get the Championship game correct. (NOTE: If even 1 of those in a tie gets the Championship came correct, the normal tie breaking rules we have followed all season will apply: (1) correct winner of championship game, (2) score differential, (3) order of entry.)

So before we get to too much further, I just want to share the tie-breaking criteria I’ll be using if we have a tie yet no one in the tie correctly guessed the winning team of the Championship game:

1. I’ll use raw score - no weighted games or bonus points - and simply ascertain “who got the most correct picks in the Bowl Bash." At the end of the day, this seems to me to be the single most important matter: who correctly picked the most games in the Bowl Bash.

2. If raw score tallying of correct picks still results in a tie…
2a. If the tie is between an Option A and an Option B person I’m giving the win to the Option A person because they had the guts to go for glory and they made their picks blind, so I think that merits something.
2b. If the tie is between two (or more) Option A or two (or more) option B persons: I’ll fall back on old reliable: who submitted their Main Slate picks earliest. It takes guts to post your picks early because you’re not waiting to find out whatever developments occur in the world of college football, and I honor guts.

This right here is my ideal outcome. Tying for the W but "losing" on being the one to run this thing next year. That seems exhausting to me hahahaha

But I think I am out of the running realistically. If not fully "mathematically eliminated" from the winner's circle.

Please note the edit I made. I think that makes it more just.

Wow wow wow!

So in the past couple days we've seen Ohio State completely embarrass Oregon as well as Notre Dame breeze past Georgia.
But now our semi-final games are set:

In the Orange Bowl we have Notre Dame v. Penn St
In the Cotton Bowl we have Ohio State v. Texas

At this time, Option B players (@Edward , @Northern Crofter , @Sovereign Grace , @greenbaggins , @No Other Name, @SolaScriptura) are invited to post their semi-final picks BELOW (please do not edit posts above). You have until kickoff on 9 Jan (6:30pm CDT) to make your picks!

Cotton Bowl is an easy pick for me; having to think about the Orange as my general operating rule worked for me in the Sugar.

The bad news is that I have Georgia and Oregon in the Championship Game.

The good news is that I probably won't have to run this thing next year.

Happy Monday, folks! Option B people: don't forget to submit your Picks for the Orange Bowl and the Cotton Bowl.

All right... Here's where everyone stands:

Brad - 31
Rick, Jason, Andrew - 30
Todd, Me - 26
Edward, Willis, Lane - 25

Ok, so brass tacks: there are 3 games left. For Option B people: 3 games worth 1 point each... y'all can do the math to ascertain whether or not you're still in contention. For Jason, as an Option A person, everything rides on Texas. If Texas wins the Championship, so does he.

Though it won't be me... I'm excited to see who wins!

At one time I was like 13-1 or 14-1 in the bowl season. It’s now bowel season as my season has went to the sewer.

It wouldn't have mattered if I'd gone option A - I would have picked Oregon to win it all. Still vacillating on the Orange.
